Jakarta – Responding to the ongoing Gaza Strip conflict between Hamas and Israel, Indonesia plans to send a hospital ship to Gaza to treat Palestinian patients, victims of Israel’s war with Hamas. The ship belonging to the Indonesian Navy with the specifications being prepared is KRI dr Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992.
KRI dr Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992 is a relatively new Indonesian Navy ship. This hospital ship was just inaugurated in January 2023 at West Bandar Pier, PT PAL Commercial Ship Division, Surabaya.
KRI dr Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992 was placed on standby at Fleet Command Headquarters (Koarmada) I Tanjung Pinang, to replace the hospital auxiliary ship KRI Semarang which will be returned to its function as a landing platform dock or LPD type ship.
Quoted from the PT PAL website, KRI Dr Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992 is the sister ship of KRI Dr Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991 which was handed over in January 2022 and is now strengthening the Koarmada III unit. As sister ships, both have health facility specifications that are similar and equivalent to type C hospitals on land or Regional General Hospitals (RSUD).
In fact, KRI Dr Radjiman Wedyodiningrat-992 is more complete than a type C hospital, because it has a CT Scan, to prevent further spread of the epidemic.
This hospital ship made by PAL is capable of accommodating 12 types of operations, and is supported by 2 Ambulance Boat units, 2 LCVP (Landing Craft Vehicle Personnel) units, 1 RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) unit. This 124 meter long ship is equipped with qualified health facilities including emergency room, inpatient and isolation rooms, radiology room, delivery room and baby room, clinic/poly, laboratory, blood bank, operating room, ICU and HCU and can carry 3 units. helicopters with a capacity of 11 tons MTOW (maximum take off weight) each.
Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto previously said he would coordinate with Egypt to send a hospital ship. He said that his party would continue to be ready to provide assistance.
“Then we will also coordinate with the Egyptian side, the TNI is also ready to send a hospital ship,” Prabowo told reporters at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, last Saturday (4/11).
Responding to this plan, Panglima TNI Admiral Yudo Margono said that his party would coordinate first with related parties.
“Yes, later, we will still coordinate. Yes, in total we have three hospital ships which also have very sophisticated medical equipment. Of course we will coordinate there first to see if it is possible for that.
