Jakarta – The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) Polda Metro Jaya has succeeded in uncovering a case of selling bank customer data via darkweb. The bank customer data was sold by the suspect, a man with the initials MRGP (28) from South Jakarta via the breachforums.is forum.
Director of Special Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol Ade Safri Simanjuntak told media crews that this case was revealed after his party received a report from one of the national private banks. The report was registered under the number LP/B/4396/VII/2023/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya on 28 July 2023.
“Furthermore, from the LP that has been made at SPKT Polda Metro Jaya, I order the joint investigation team to immediately carry out a series of investigative efforts on reports of alleged criminal acts reported by the reporter,” said Kombes Pol Ade Safri in a press conference at the Polda Metro Jaya Headquarters, Jakarta , Monday, (14/8).
A number of bank customer data, he continued, are sold on the darkweb Breachforums.is. The seller of the customer data is a user who owns an account named ‘Pentagram’.
“In around July 2023 a post was found on Breachforums.is. That is darkweb. Where in a post uploaded on Breachforums.is there is a post that sells credit card data for bank customers,” said the officer who graduated from the 1996 Wira Satya Akpol Battalion.
Departing from these findings, continued the owner of the Capricorn zodiac, his party then conducted profiling of the account users. From the results of the investigation, the suspect was finally arrested at his house, Jl Tebet Barat Dalam II-B Number 26, Tebet, South Jakarta.
“Thank God, on August 8, 2023 at 16.10 WIB, the suspect with the initials MRGP was successfully arrested by a joint fingerprinting team from the Cybercriminal Police, Polda Metro Jaya at his house which is located at Jalan Tebet Barat, Tebet, South Jakarta,” Kombes Pol Ade Safri said.
At the time of his arrest, 1 unit of iPhone 11, 1 unit of blue iPhone XR, 1 CPU unit and 2 sets of monitor screens were also confiscated as evidence.
The MRGP suspect was charged by investigators with Article 32 in conjunction with Article 48 and/or Article 35 in conjunction with Article 51 of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions.
