Jakarta – Next week, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will announce the name of the new Chief of Army Staff (KSAD) to replace Jenderal TNI Agus Subiyanto who is currently Panglima of the TNI.
And circulating fast, there are three names of three-star high-ranking TNI officers who are the strongest candidates for KSAD. The three candidates are Letjen TNI I Nyoman Cantiasa, Letjen TNI Suharyanto, and Letjen TNI Maruli Simanjuntak.
All three are high-ranking officers with different backgrounds, achievements, experiences and careers. However, all three are considered to have a vision and mission that is in line with the challenges and needs of the Indonesian Army in the future.

Letjen TNI I Nyoman Cantiasa graduated from the Military Academy in 1990 from the infantry branch (Kopassus). He has various military qualifications, such as commando, free fall, counter-terror, and intelligence analyst.
Similar to Cantiasa, Letjen TNI Suharyanto also comes from the infantry branch. However, he was recorded as a different graduate, namely in 1989. Letjen TNI Suharyanto studied at Sesko TNI (2013) (Best Graduate), Dik Raider, Air Borne to Lemhannas.
Meanwhile, Letjen TNI Maruli Simanjuntak is the youngest graduate of the 1992 Military Academy, also from the infantry (Kopassus) branch and the Cakra Combat Detachment. He has also taken further education at Seskoad, Sesko TNI, and Lemhannas.
Achievements and Position Experience
Letjen TNI I Nyoman Cantiasa is the best graduate who won Bintang Adhi Makayasa Akmil in 1990 and Tri Sakti Wiratama (1990). He is also the student with the Best Writing Paper at Dikreg XLI Sesko TNI T.A 2014.
In his history, Cantiasa himself has been directly involved in two major TNI operations, namely the release of hostages from the OPM terror act in Mapenduma in 1996 and the Somali pirate terror act in the hijacking of the MV Sinar Kudus ship in 2011.
Currently, Cantiasa serves as Deputy Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN). Previously, he had served Danrem 173/Praja Vira Braja, Kasdam XVII/Cenderawasih Pa Sahli Tk. III, Polkamnas Sector, Commander of the TNI, Danjen Kopassus, Pangdam XVIII/Kasuari, Pangkogabwilhan III and Coordinator of Expert Staff for the KSAD.
Meanwhile, Letjen TNI Suharyanto graduated from Sesko TNI in 2013 with the title of best graduate. He has also served in various conflict areas, such as East Timor, Papua and Aceh. He also served as Military Secretary to the President and Commander of Kodam V/Brawijaya.
Currently, he serves as Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
