Panglima TNI Jenderal TNI Agus Subiyanto and Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman signed a memorandum of understanding for the TNI to support the implementation of agricultural development.

Jakarta – Panglima TNI Jenderal TNI Agus Subiyanto acknowledged the synergy between the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture and the TNI in accordance with his vision, namely a PRIMA (professional, responsive, integrative, modern and adaptive) TNI. This synergy has also been marked by a memorandum of understanding in the agricultural sector, namely the national resilience program.

This acknowledgment was conveyed by Panglima TNI Jenderal TNI Agus Subiyanto in his speech at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the TNI and the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture. The signed memorandum of understanding talks about support for the implementation of agricultural development. The signing was carried out at Wisma A.Yani Jl. Taman Suropati No.10 Menteng, Central Jakarta, Monday, (4/12).

The Panglima TNI further said, that in its implementation the TNI’s integrative mission is that the TNI always synergizes with ministries, institutions and other components of the nation.

“Today’s signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Agriculture is an implementation of my mission to be able to synergize with other ministries and institutions,” Panglima Agus said.

He really hopes that the memorandum of understanding that has been agreed can increase the quantity and quality that has previously existed between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Indonesian National Army.

“This memorandum of understanding was followed up with a cooperation agreement at the operational level, so that the shared goal of supporting the national food security program can be realized,” he explained.

Scope of the note
This signed understanding includes assistance in implementing agricultural development programs, assistance in increasing production and productivity of agricultural commodities, optimizing Indonesian National Army land for agriculture, increasing human resource capacity in the agricultural sector, utilization of facilities and infrastructure, other agreed areas of cooperation.

In front of the media crew, Jenderal TNI Agus also revealed the problem of unused land where there are obstacles in the water.

“Usually, most of the unused land lacks water, so we have to plan the water first. What I said earlier is that the regional typology is different. For example, the Sukabumi area is now harvesting cassava and corn. We have planted cassava and corn but previously we couldn’t harvest because of the dry season. Later, we will evaluate in the future. That means we have to build the water barns first,” he explained.

On that occasion, the Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman said that the signing of this MoU was aimed at accelerating increased production and restoring food self-sufficiency which had been achieved 3 years previously. Apart from that, it also strengthens agriculture to face the threat of the impact of El Nino. One of them is by optimizing unused land and potential mineral swamp land covering an area of 10 million hectares.

“In Pak Jokowi’s era, we were self-sufficient three times. This was all thanks to TNI intervention. We were self-sufficient in 2017, 2019, 2020,” said Andi Amran Sulaiman.

“In the future, with this synergy we will try to reduce imports in the next one to two years. In the next three years we hope to be as self-sufficient as before,” he continued. Bembo
