Jakarta – Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya officials arrested two Instagram account hackers in South Sulawesi, last Wednesday, (9/8). The two perpetrators were arrested after the victim made a report to the police.
The two hackers had the initials A (21) and MRP (19). While the victim who made a report to the police was named Teuku Arlan Perkasa.
The Director of Special Criminal Investigation for Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Ade Safri Simanjuntak explained to the media crew that the incident started with the MRP perpetrators hacking the victim’s Instagram account. After that, the perpetrator contacted the victim via WhatsApp. The perpetrator told the victim that his accomplice had hacked into the victim’s account.
“Contacting the victim using the victim’s profile photo. WhatsApp initially sent a WhatsApp message to the victim, which contained something like ‘hacked his Instagram account?'” said Kombes Pol Ade Safri, Monday, (14/8).
At that time the perpetrator asked for Rp10 million from the victim. Because he wanted his Instagram account back, the victim then transferred money to the perpetrator with a nominal value of Rp12.5 million.
Instead of giving the victim’s Instagram account, the perpetrator again asked for a sum of Rp100 million. The perpetrator threatened to spread the victim’s personal data armed with a hacked Instagram account. Due to this, the victim finally decided to report to the police.
“Furthermore, the victim was threatened again by the suspect, with threats to share data and information belonging to the victim, armed with data and information stored on the victim’s IG, and the Whatsapp account (owned by the suspect) asked to be transferred back to the victim in the amount of Rp100 million. However, the victim objected and then report it to the police,” said Kombes Pol Ade Safri
From the interim examination, both are known to have been acting for a year. Investigators at the Ditreskrimsus Polda Metro Jaya are still investigating the existing cases, including finding out other victims and other suspects who are members of the syndicate.
“They have been carrying out their actions (in action) for about a year. We are still continuing to develop the possibility of other networks or the involvement of other actors,” said Kombes Pol Ade Safri.
To account for their actions, the two suspects were charged with Article Article 27 paragraph (4) in conjunction with Article 45 paragraph (4) and/or Article 29 in conjunction with Article 45 B and/or Article 30 in conjunction with Article 46 and/or Article 32 in conjunction with Article 48 and/or Article 35 in conjunction with Article 51 paragraph (1) Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008.
