Regarding the Arrest of Saiful Jamil on the Street, Kompolnas will send a Letter to the Kapolda Metro Jaya

Kompolnas Commissioner, Poengky Indarti.

Jakarta – The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) will send a letter of recommendation to the Kapolda Metro Jaya, Irjen Pol Karyoto regarding the arrest of Saipul Jamil in the drug abuse case that ensnared his assistant. The letter is planned to be sent this week.

“We will encourage an evaluation of the arrest process, and follow up with an examination of investigators and their superiors,” said Kompolnas Commissioner, Poengky Indarti to journalists yesterday.

“It is important that there is strict supervision and punishment for members who violate it,” he continued.

The recommendation letter that will be sent is intended for investigators to carry out their duties by referring to the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), National Police Chief Regulation (Perkap) Number 1 of 2009 concerning the Use of Force and Perkap 8 of 2009 concerning Human Rights.

“The Saipul Jamil case must be used as momentum to increase the professionalism of investigators,” said Poengky.

He considered, that the arrest by the police of Saipul Jamil and his assistant, Steven, on the street was no different from an act of thuggery on the street.

“What the plainclothes officers demonstrated with acts of physical and verbal violence against Brother SJ and his driver actually resembled acts of street thuggery,” he stressed.

As is known, in the viral video of Saiful Jamil’s arrest, the authorities allegedly carried out physical and verbal violence against the dangdut singer. Apart from Saipul, his assistant, Steven, also received the same treatment.

“This act is classified as an act of torture and an act that demeans human dignity in carrying out the arrest of SJ and the driver of his car. It is very shameful,” said Poengky.

He alleged that the arrest was carried out without a warrant and ignored the principle of presumption of innocence. Moreover, the results of Saipul Jamil’s urine test and hair test were declared negative for drugs.

“We encourage the Propam Division of Polda Metro Jaya to be proactive in carrying out investigations with investigators so that this degrading act of arrest does not happen again,” concluded Poengky. Bembo
