On the Same Day, Firli Bahuri Received an Award and Became a Corruption Suspect

Jakarta – Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri has officially been named by Polda Metro Jaya as a suspect in an extortion case within the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), Wednesday, (22/11). And ironically, Firli was named a suspect on the same day he received the Mutual Bandha Award from the Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani.

This award was given to 39 outstanding state asset managers and auctioneers for their quality performance and good coordination throughout 2023, including the KPK. This anti-corruption agency received a special award regarding its contribution to managing state property (BMN) as part of the state’s strategy to eradicate corruption.

Director of Special Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes PolAde Safri Simanjuntak said, that Firli was named a suspect and charged under Article 12 of the Corruption Eradication Law.

Firli, said that Kombes Pol Ade Safri had committed an unlawful act by abusing his power as a civil servant or state administrator.

“Article 12 b paragraph 1, every gratification against civil servants or state administrators or which is related to their position and which is contrary to their obligations or duties and is related to Article 12 b paragraph 1 in the second paragraph, it is stated that it is a criminal offense for civil servants or state administrators as intended paragraph 1, be sentenced to life imprisonment,” said Kombes Pol Ade to journalists at Polda Metro Jaya, Wednesday, (23/11) evening.

Furthermore, Kombes Pol Ade also said that the former Head of Kabaharkam was threatened with a criminal sentence of 20 years with a maximum fine of Rp1 billion.

Apart from that, Firli was also subject to Article 11 of the Corruption Law with a maximum sentence of five years with a criminal fine of Rp250 million.

“Meanwhile, Article 11 is punishable by imprisonment for a minimum of one year and a maximum of five years and/or a penalty of at least Rp50 million and a maximum of Rp250 million, for civil servants or state officials who receive gifts or promises, even though they are known or it should be suspected that the gift or promise was given because of power,” said Kombes Pol Ade Safri.
