Jakarta – The Indonesian Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto opened and at the same time chaired the proceedings of the 17th ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting/The 17th ADMM) at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Senayan, Wednesday, (15/ 11).
The 17th ADMM in 2023 has the theme “Peace, Prosperity, and Security”. This theme was raised because of the close relationship between peace, prosperity and security. These three also form a strong foundation for regional stability.
This also refers to the theme of Indonesia’s 2023 ASEAN Chairmanship, namely “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”. As host of the meeting, Indonesia is committed to promoting defense and security dialogue and cooperation to achieve common goals.
A number of prominent defense and security issues such as geopolitical and geostrategic dynamics in regional and global contexts were also discussed in depth at this session. Including defense cooperation within the ASEAN framework, as well as cooperation between ASEAN and Plus Country.
Menhan Prabowo as Chair of the 17th ADMM in his speech expressed his gratitude for the presence of the Ministers of Defense of ASEAN Countries and the Secretary General of ASEAN at the 17th ADMM event. Not to forget, thanks were also expressed to Timor Leste who also attended the meeting as an observer. Timor Leste was represented by the Minister of Defense Prof. Donaciano Do Costa Gomes in this meeting.
“ADMM plays a very important role in overcoming security challenges. Through meaningful dialogue, exchange of ideas, and establishing partnerships with the principles of mutual trust, transparency, and collaboration. “This meeting can also be a catalyst for achieving results that can be implemented,” explained Menhan Prabowo.
Furthermore, Menhan Prabowo also hopes that all delegations will be involved in constructive discussions. This kind of discussion aims to find innovative solutions, as well as identify concrete steps to overcome security challenges in the region.
“I am confident that our collective understanding and commitment will pave the way to a safer, more prosperous and more resilient ASEAN community,” stressed Menhan Prabowo.
On this occasion, Menhan Prabowo
also expressed his concern about the conflict in Myanmar and the situation in Gaza.
The Indonesian government, he said, would make every effort to continue humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people and a peaceful solution for Myanmar.
