Jakarta – Executive Director of the Indonesian Police Strategic Studies Institute (Lemkapi) Dr Edi Saputra Hasibuan stated that the detention of the former Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Firli Bahuri, who is now a suspect in a criminal case of extortion and gratification, is under the full authority of Polda Metro Jaya investigators.
“Investigators certainly have consideration and confidence in not detaining Firli Bahuri and no rules have been violated. At this time the police have not made arrests,” he said in a written statement in Jakarta, Wednesday, (3/1).
Even so, he remains completely confident that Polda Metro Jaya will work transparently and provide a sense of fairness to the community.
“As long as the suspect is cooperative, does not run away, does not repeat his actions, and does not destroy evidence, then there is no obligation for police investigators to detain him,” he said.
As is known, Firli is a suspect in extortion and gratification by former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL). Meanwhile, in the case handled by the KPK, Syahrul, who is also a suspect, has been detained.
Previously, the South Jakarta District Court had also rejected the pretrial lawsuit filed by Firli.
Now, Polda Metro Jaya is completing Firli Bahuri’s investigation file after previously returning it to the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office for correction.
Until now, Polda Metro Jaya has not detained Firli, although a number of parties have urged the police to immediately detain him
And the Kapolda Metro Jaya, Irjen Pol Karyoto, has also answered, that tactics and strategies are needed to detain a suspect, as in the Firli Bahuri case.
“It’s easy to hold back. Today, if I can hold it, then I will hold it. But we need the right tactics and strategy, so that later we don’t waste time,” he said when delivering the Polda Metro Jaya End of Year Release, at Balai Metro Jaya Meeting (BPMJ), last Thursday, (28/12). Bembo
