Jakarta – The Traffic Corps (Korlantas) of the Indonesian National Police will enforce the issuance of a driving license (SIM) for individual motorized vehicles and public transport must include a driving certificate. This is in accordance with Perpol Number 5 of 2021 concerning Issuance and Marking of Driving Permits.
Director of the Regident Police Korlantas, Brigadier General Pol Yusri Yunus, said that the inclusion of a driving certificate is actually not a new policy. But the new old rules will apply now.
“It’s been a long time (the rule), before the Perpol 05 was declared, yes,” Yusri said to the media crew, Saturday, (17/6).
This policy itself, he continued, has been attached to Perpol No. 5 of 2021 in Article 9 letter a in point number 3. Point 3 reads, namely, attaching a copy of the original driving education and training certificate issued by an accredited driving school, for a maximum of 6 months from the date of issue.
Yusri said, the ease of making a SIM in Indonesia is currently ranked 10th in the world. The cost of manufacture is also fairly cheap, which is in the range of IDR100,000. This condition is very different from other countries, for example in Japan alone someone who wants to get a SIM can at least spend up to IDR40 million.
“It must be known that the impact of road accidents in Indonesia is high, the death rate, why? Because the people do not yet (understand a lot of traffic ethics),” he explained.
The high number of accidents is an important concern for policy makers. With people entering driving schools, it is hoped that they can increase their knowledge and ethics in driving. So the number of accidents can be reduced.
“Indeed, yesterday we implemented it slowly. I am currently making implementing regulations so that in the future people must have a driving certificate from an accredited driving school,” Yusri said.
“The direction was that way, that’s why the school told them, if you want to be smart at school, so that you can have driving ethics, don’t be reckless, don’t just drive a motorcycle on the road, if he’s reckless, it’s not just the victim who gets hit Maybe those who brought it themselves died too,” he continued.
Nationally, the policy of attaching a driving certificate has not yet been implemented. Korlantas itself is still preparing technical instructions related to the application of these rules. Bembo
