Jakarta  – Kapolda Metro Jaya, Irjen Pol Karyoto said that the crime rate in DKI Jakarta ahead of voting day for the 2024 election is relatively low.

He expressed this based on the results of patrols carried out over the past three days by his party.

“When I went around last night, three nights in a row (Jakarta) was like Eid, it was quiet,” said Kapolda Karyoto after the joint troop shift ceremony ahead of voting in the 2024 elections at Monas, Jakarta Pusat, Tuesday, (13/2).

He also admitted that he was grateful for the decline in crime in Jakarta. He even joked that criminals are currently focused on choosing potential leaders.

“That means maybe the thieves are voting and so on. God willing, it’s safer. There’s been a slight decrease (crime rate). Because yesterday i didn’t hear any reports of brawls. They realized they wanted to vote first,” he joked.

Even so, continued Kapolda Karyoto, his party will remain alert to any security disturbances and ensure that the democratic process, especially in Jakarta and its surroundings, runs safely.

“The important thing is that we hope it doesn’t mean that when we have elections, we will relax our patrols. We even carry out large-scale patrols together. TNI and Polri are together,” said Kapolda Karyoto.

As is known, to secure the 2024 elections, Polda Metro Jaya deployed 7,706 joint personnel consisting of 6,506 police and 1,200 TNI personnel. Thousands of personnel will be deployed to secure 65,495 polling stations in the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya.

For this reason, Kapolda Karyoto also reminded his members to remain alert to political turmoil and disputes during voting.

“In the process of voting and counting the votes, it is anticipated that there will be turmoil or disputes in the field related to the results of the vote count or distrust of the officers,” he stressed.

He also asked his personnel to immediately report directly if a critical incident occurred in the field while carrying out security measures.

“Don’t take it for granted, don’t treat it as something routine and get carried away with a situation that looks sloping. Continue to carry out your duties according to the division of tasks that have been given so that our presence at the TPS location can secure the process of voting until the vote counting is completed in conducive conditions,” ” he stressed.

Coordination with TNI elements, said Kapolda Karyoto, is also needed to carry out mapping of security locations.

He also reminded all personnel to pay attention to the actions taken so that they are in accordance with existing procedures.

He also emphasized the issue of neutrality which must be maintained firmly by all personnel carrying out their duties. Bembo
