Jakarta – Kapolda Metro Jaya, Irjen Pol Karyoto, confirmed that his party did not detain participants in the demonstration which became chaotic in front of the DPR/MPR/DPD RI Building on Wednesday, (31/1) yesterday.
“Until now there are none, no one (has been detained),” he told reporters.
Even so, continued Kapolda Karyoto, his party still asked for responsibility because there was damage and they had acted unreasonably.
“When people exercise their right to express their aspirations but bring tools such as, if I call it bodem, that’s an iron head, we will look for them,” he said again.
Furthermore, Kapolda Karyoto also said, that during yesterday’s demonstration his party only remained silent and did not put up any resistance when the demonstration participants from the Association of Indonesian Village Governments (APDESI) started throwing stones.
“We just survived. We survived using water, some of the concrete was broken using an iron hammer,” he explained.
“And we didn’t respond. We just continued to urge you not to be anarchic and to continue spraying water,” he added.
He also added, that when securing yesterday’s demonstration, none of its members suffered serious injuries when the chaos occurred.
“Alhamdulillah, there weren’t any. We were equipped with helmets and shields. We could see above that there were stones and bottles being thrown,” he explained.
Before the demonstration, continued Kapolda Karyoto, the police had actually carried out a number of raids. One of them got 30 tires which he planned to burn during the demonstration.
Because of this, his party will carry out investigations into a number of individuals who carried out the damage.
“Yes, we definitely have documentation, but slowly. We are looking at learning as well. The civil service should be the most basic leader in the entire Republic of Indonesia,” he said. Bembo
