“Friday Confide” in Kulonprogo, Kapolda Suwondo Asks Staff to Increase Night Patrols

Kapolda DIY , Inspector General of Police Suwondo Nainggolan during the "Friday Confide" event at the Kedundang Village Hall, Temon, Kulonprogo, Friday, (26/5) yesterday.

Kulonprogo – The Kapolda Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Inspector General of Police Suwondo Nainggolan asked his staff, both Polres and Polresta to increase night patrols. Places that are usually used by teenagers to gather must be visited intensely to maintain a conducive atmosphere.

He also stressed that he wanted the atmosphere of Yogyakarta to remain safe and conducive, as well as free from street crimes (klitih).

“I asked for increased night patrols. The place where the children usually gather is visited so that the atmosphere is conducive,” said the Regional Police Chief Suwondo during the “Friday Confide” event at the Kedundang Village Hall, Temon, Kulonprogo, Friday, (26/5) yesterday.

According to him, several street crime cases did involve many students. Therefore, said the Suwondo Police Chief, the existence of school gangs must be anticipated early on.

The pattern of school gangs, continued the Kapolda, usually uses seniors to recruit their younger siblings. After being sworn in, they were force-fed with alcohol and then given weapons to commit street crimes.

“That’s the pattern. But for Kulonprogo, thankfully his condition is still stable. This must be maintained,” said the two-star General who graduated from the 1994 Tunggal Panaluan Police Academy Battalion.

Meanwhile, the Kaligintung Urban Village Head, Mucholid Fuad, in this activity expressed his hope that the police would return to implementing the child-friendly police program. Because according to him, it is important for children to be more familiar with the duties and roles of the police. The child’s closeness to the police, he continued, will make the child more afraid of the law.

A different opinion was expressed by a Kulonprogo Volunteer, Sulis. Sulis said, the presence of Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) currently creates a dilemma because it triggers population mobility. This makes the traffic flow very congested and increases the number of traffic accidents.

“If possible there will be an additional traffic light, Mr. Kapolda. Or add a zebra crossing so that accident cases can be reduced,” said Sulis hoping. Bembo
