Jakarta – The Directorate of Cyber Crime (Dittipidsiber) Bareskrim Polri is currently investigating a number of artists and celebrities who are suspected of promoting online gambling sites.
This information was conveyed by the Director of Cyber Crime (Dirtipidsiber) Bareskrim Polri Brigadier General Pol Adi Vivid Agustiadi Bachtiar to journalists, Thursday, (31/8). But he also doesn’t want to reveal the identities of artists and celebrities who are suspected of promoting online gambling.
“Currently we are carrying out monitoring, profiling and data collection first. Later, when the time comes, we will provide information,” said Brigadier General Pol Adi Vivid at
the National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta.
He explained that if indications were found regarding online gambling promotions, his party would follow up on this by making clarification calls.
“We will follow up, and if the criminal elements are met, we will certainly process them,” he said.
“What is clear is not this week,” he added.
Previously, Bareskrim Polri had warned that this action could be punished by up to 6 years in prison.
“Influencers can be subject to the ITE Law, Article 45 Paragraph 2 Juncto (Article) 27 Paragraph 2 with the threat of 6 years in prison and a fine of around IDR 1 billion,” said Police Brigadier General Adi Vivid Agustiadi Bactiar, Wednesday, (30/8) yesterday.
He also emphasized that artists and celebrities who are caught promoting online gambling sites will not be able to avoid it on the pretext of not knowing anything because typical online gambling usually looks different.
“For example, he avoids it, I don’t know. I don’t think he can avoid online gambling. If it was maybe online loans, online investments, he might not understand,” he explained.
“But when it comes to online gambling, it’s clear. Usually the words are ‘you can make a profit, with a high winning percentage’ or something like that, from that information we can use elements of the article,” he continued. Bembo
