Jakarta – Polda Metro Jaya has named suspect status while detaining Edi Gunawan, the alleged perpetrator of the money laundering crime (TPPU) and fraud and embezzlement of tens of billions of rupiah.
Determination of suspect status and detention of Edi Gunawan was based on the investigation process on the victim’s report with LP/B/2394/V/2023/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya dated May 5, 2023.
Referring to the Investigation Warrant number SP.Sidik/1425/VI/2023/Ditreskrimum, Aldrino as the victim’s attorney said the suspect was suspected of having committed fraud, embezzlement, and disguising money from the proceeds of his crime by purchasing a number of movable and immovable assets.
“Our client was deceived and embezzled billions of rupiah by the suspect Edi Gunawan,” said Aldrino, Sunday, (6/8) yesterday.
“In addition, it is suspected that money belonging to our client has also been laundered by the suspect, as investigators suspect,” he continued.
Furthermore, Aldrino also appreciated the legal steps to determine Edi Gunawan’s suspect status. This step, according to him, is evidence of precise police action, including detaining suspects.
The problem, explained Aldrino, during the investigation process the suspect Edi Gunawan did not show a cooperative attitude. This is shown by the two times absent from summons investigators without a clear reason.
Apart from that, he continued, he also regretted the attitude of the suspect who often gave convoluted and changing statements every time. Even though the mediation room had been opened by his client as an effort to get the suspect to confess and regret his actions.
“For years our clients have been deceived and embezzled by suspects. We have the evidence. What makes us very disappointed, suspects always convoluted,” he said.
Aldrino hopes that the suspect will receive a punishment commensurate with his actions. Moreover, the suspect’s actions were repeated at one time which were seen as continuing actions (voortgezette handeling). Bembo
