Polda Metro Jaya Overthrows Special Service Plate Counterfeiting Syndicate

The Sub-Directorate for Jatanras, Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, rolled up a syndicate that counterfeited special service plates and even Polri service plates for motorized vehicles.

Jakarta – The Sub-Directorate for Jatanras, Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya has arrested a syndicate that counterfeited special service plates and even National Police service plates for motorized vehicles. Three suspects have been arrested and another suspect is being sought.

Head of Jatanras Sub-Directorate, Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Samian, in his official statement to journalists, said that currently his party has named four people as suspects. However, of the four suspects, only three were arrested. Meanwhile, another person is still being chased.

“The three suspects who have been arrested are YY (44), who is a civil servant (PNS), HG (46), a government employee with a work agreement (PPPK), and another PAW, a private employee. We still have one more suspect, namely IM. chase,” said AKBP Samian at the Polda Metro Jaya Headquarters, Wednesday, (20/12).

The three suspects who have been detained at the Polda Metro Jaya Detention Center have been charged with multiple articles. They are subject to Article 263 in conjunction with Article 56 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of 6 years in prison.

AKBP Samian further explained, that the suspect admitted that he could issue special or secret plates issued by the National Police. However, after being traced through the National Police Traffic Corps’ ERI (Electronic Registration and Identification) system, it turned out that the STNK was not registered.

“The suspects claimed to be able to take care of the issuance of special or secret number plates issued by Korlantas Polri. However, after checking through the Korlantas Polri ERI system, it turned out that the STNK did not comply with its designation,” said AKBP Samian.

At the same time, the Director of Registration and Identification (Dirregident) of the National Police Traffic Corps, Brigjen Pol Yusri Yunus, said that the suspect was known to have three modus operandi in this case. Starting from making really fake STNKs, to manipulating STNKs that have expired. The fake STNK and plates were sold for tens of millions of rupiah.

Fake special service plates made by a syndicate of counterfeiters arrested by the Jatanras Sub-Directorate, Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya.

“He made number plates, then he sold them for Rp55 million. This is already hundreds. If we calculate 200 or 300 times Rp55 million, that’s how much profit this syndicate makes. It sold Rp55 million to Rp75 million to the people who ordered it,” he said.

He also emphasized, that the buyers of these fake plates were mostly people with an established economic background. Brigjen Pol Yusri also said that if a luxury vehicle is found to be wearing a special number plate, it is certain that it is fake.

“Those who use and buy this are people who have money, use luxury vehicles. If there is a luxury vehicle that uses a ZZ (special plate), it should be suspicious. Why? Because the requirement to get a special number is for an official car. If there is a ZZP on the car Mercy costs Rp2 billion. There are no police service cars that use Mercy service cars. If anyone uses Mercy, no institution, there are none. Anyone who uses a Land Cruiser uses ZZP, that’s fake,” he explained.

For this reason, Brigjen Pol Yusri asked the public not to get involved in the case of buying and selling fake plates. He also emphasized that both makers and buyers of fake plates would be punished.

“Hopefully, with this press conference, we will urge those who order them to stop because we will impose penalties later. We will also impose penalties on the buyers,” stressed Brigjen Pol Yusri. Bembo
