The smuggling of prospective illegal Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI) was successfully thwarted by Bakamla RI through one of its elements, KN Pulau Marore-322 in Batam.

Batam – Bakamla RI, through one of its elements, KN Pulau Marore-322, succeeded in thwarting the smuggling of prospective illegal Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI), Thursday (16/11). This disclosure is the result of the Marine Security and Safety Operation “Nusantara VI/23” in the coastal waters of Dongas, Sekupang, Batam.

This disclosure began when the Indonesian Bakamla Command and Control Center (Puskodal) received information that there was suspicious activity regarding alleged illegal CPMI loading activities around Dongas Beach. On this basis, the Director of Maritime Operations at Bakamla RI Laksda Bakamla Friche Flack gave orders to Letkol Bakamla Yuli Eko Prihartanto as Commander of KN Marore Island-322 to carry out a blockade in the waters north of Sekupang.

This incident occurred on Sunday, (12/11) at 19.08 WIB. At that time, the VBSS KN Marore Island Team-322 managed to find an unnamed speed boat/HSC that was traveling northwards out of the waters of Dongas Beach. Knowing the presence of the VBSS team, the HSC turned south to escape. The chase was carried out by the VBSS team.

At 19.30 WIB, the VBSS team managed to find the nameless HSC at one of Tikus Pier, Dongas Beach in an empty condition. The VBSS team then conducted a search around the location to look for smugglers and illegal CPMI who had escaped.

On Monday, at 05.30 WIB, the VBSS team succeeded in finding 30 illegal CPMI people who were hiding in the mangrove forest around the land. This location was allegedly a temporary stopover before leaving for Malaysia. For further investigation, the 30 illegal CPMI people were taken to KN Marore Island-322.

From the results of the investigation, it was discovered that the illegal CPMI came from Lombok, NTB. To go to Malaysia, the illegal CPMI admitted that they needed to pay 10-15 million per person to the management who claimed to be an agent.

On Thursday, (16/11), all 30 CPMI secured by KN Marore-322 were handed over to the Batam City Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Post (P4MI), represented by Darman M. Sagala. This handover was witnessed by the Head of BP3MI Riau Islands Province Mustaqim Ode Musnal for further legal proceedings. This arrest was the result of collaboration between Bakamla RI and the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS). Bembo
