Bandung – Deputy for Information, Law and Cooperation (Inhuker) Bakamla RI Rear Laksda Bakamla Dr. Samuel H. Kowaas was chairman of the Indonesian Delegation at the 9th Review Meeting on the RI-Malaysia Common Guidelines MoU. The meeting was held in Bandung, Thursday, (16/11).
The 9th Review Meeting on the RI-Malaysia Common Guidelines MoU is an annual meeting held reciprocally between the Governments of the Republic of Indonesia and Malaysia. This meeting aims to protect fishermen from both countries regarding the treatment of law enforcers at sea in unresolved maritime boundary areas. This is in accordance with the Common Best Practices (CBP) mutually agreed upon by the two countries.
The event lasted for two days. On the first day the event began with a discussion of the review and follow-up of CBP Implementation and the Record of Discussion (RoD) 8th Review Meeting of the MoU Common Guidelines. Meanwhile on the second day, the meeting focused on finalizing the RoD and signing the RoD 9th Review Meeting MoU Common Guidelines.
This meeting has reached several agreements regarding the mechanism for implementing the MoU Common Guidelines as well as several recommendations for improvement. It is believed that this agreement can have a positive impact on both countries and the benefits can be shared together. Another thing that is of concern is the comprehensive implementation of common best practices which still requires continuous outreach to marine users and law enforcers in both countries.
On this occasion, the Malaysian delegation chaired by the National Security Council was represented by the Director of the Maritime Security and Sovereignty Division of the National Security Council, Azizi bin Wahab. Also participating were other delegations such as the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Survey and Mapping, Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs, Royal Malaysian Navy, and Royal Malaysian Police.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian delegation was attended by the KKP, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Korpolairud, TNI AL, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, KPLP, and the Ministry of Finance.
