Kadiv Humas Polri, Irjen Pol Sandi Nugroho.

Jakarta – Kapolri General Pol Listyo Sigit has issued a regulation to temporarily postpone the legal process involving participants in the upcoming 2024 General Election. These regulations are contained in the National Police Chief’s ST with number: ST/1160/V/RES.1.24.2023.

Kadiv Humas Mabes Polri, Irjen Pol Sandi Nugroho, explained that these regulations were to maintain conduciveness in society, especially election participants, ahead of the 2024 elections.

“Indeed, there are already instructions through the STR to maintain conduciveness,” said Irjen Pol Sandi to journalists, last Friday, (13/10).

He also said that the police were delaying the legal process against election participants. In order to minimize the existence of interests that could interfere with the election process.

“We will postpone this election activity first so that it does not affect the interests of certain parties in its implementation,” he said.

Even so, Irjen Pol Sandi still emphasized that the issuance of the postponement regulations did not mean that all legal processes involving election participants were postponed. Because, the case postponement process will still be carried out through the case title mechanism by investigators.

“However, we will also decide this through the results of the case title and the results of developments in the field later,” he explained.

For information, an example of a case that has been temporarily stopped is the alleged beating case carried out by the former Chairman of the Semarang City Gerindra DPC, Joko Santoso.

The Polda Jawa Tengah investigating team decided in the case title to stop the investigation process based on the consideration that Joko was reportedly running to become a legislative candidate for the 2024 elections.

“Investigators are coordinating with the KPU whether the person concerned is registered as a legislative candidate. If not, this case will continue,” said Kabid Humas Polda Jawa Tengah, Kombes Pol Satake Bayu, Wednesday, (3/10).

The temporary suspension of the case investigation was in accordance with the instructions of the National Police Headquarters. In accordance with the direction of the National Police Headquarters, he said that investigations into certain categories of cases were stopped until the election was over or the swearing-in stage was reached.

“Indeed, we have temporarily stopped the case of the former Gerindra chairman,” he said.

Joko was policed by Suparjiyanto because he was said to have committed abuse in accordance with Article 351 of the Criminal Code. The report has been received by the Central Java Police SPKT with STTLP/167/IX/2023/JATENG/SPKT. Currently, the victim is also assisted by LBH Ratu Adil as legal representative.
