Jakarta – The practice of selling illegal firearms has been completely dismantled by the Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya. One by one the suspects can also be arrested, including the firearm modifier in Semarang, Central Java.
The Director of the General Criminal Investigation Unit for Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Hengki Haryadi, said that the case was uncovered after his party investigated information from intelligence regarding the distribution of illegal firearms. Polda Metro Jaya unraveled this case after working with the Army Puspom (AD). The reason is, one of the suspects had a fake TNI AD membership card.
“Since June, we have collaborated with the Army Puspom (AD) to carry out a series of investigations and arrests of illegal firearms distribution networks on behalf of the army and the ministry of defense,” said Kombes Pol Hengki Haryadi during a press conference at the Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters, Friday, (18/8).
“The suspect used a fake card as if it was genuine, even carried out military-type training. Even though it was not military,” he continued.
During the arrest operation at that time, Polda Metro Jaya confiscated 38 short barrel and long barrel firearms. Polda Metro is also coordinating with Densus 88 Anti-terror to reveal illegal firearms related to the terrorist suspect DE who was arrested in Bekasi some time ago.
Outside the terrorism network, Polda Metro Jaya Ditreskrimum has also succeeded in uncovering illegal firearms sales. In this case, Polda Metro confiscated another 18 modified firearms.
“Beyond what was revealed by the Densus in Bekasi some time ago, we have also secured 18 (tops). We have arrested several suspects,” said the officer with the Libra zodiac sign from the 1996 Wira Satya Battalion of the Police Academy.
He further said that this network of modified firearms sellers markets their products through e-commerce. And the Bekasi terrorist suspect, DE is one of the buyers.
“The DE terror suspect revealed by Densus received several weapons through e-commerce online sales. So they never met. In fact, we found here that the account used did not match the name of the terror suspect. They ordered weapons from this, then sent, they don’t see each other,” he said.
He also said, in the series of disclosures of this case, his party also managed to apprehend a gun modifier living in Semarang, Central Java. As a follow-up, several gun recipients were also arrested.
“We revealed yesterday that the modifier factory is in Semarang. We will also arrest the recipients of the firearms. Then we will get some evidence, we will release it at the same time,” said Kombes Pol Hengki Haryadi.
Overall, from the disclosure of this case, Polda Metro Jaya and Puspom TNI AD confiscated a total of 56 firearms. Of the 56 guns, some of them were factory firearms and modified firearms.
Now regarding the modified firearm in question, Kombes Pol Hengki Haryadi said the weapon was an airsoft gun that had been converted into a firearm. The seller sells it in e-commerce as if the weapon is an airsoft gun, even though a modified weapon is just as dangerous as a firearm.
“Well, this modifier weapon is widely supplied. The professional one is in Semarang, which we revealed yesterday. And also a manufacturer selling firearms. But what is quite sad is that it is sold via the e-commerce platform, as if it were an airsoft gun there. Even though it already modified weapons from air guns to firearms,” he said again.
Police Arrested
Regarding the news that three members of the police, one of them from Polda Metro Jaya, were arrested by Densus 88 for allegedly being involved in a terrorist network, Kombes Pol Hengki Haryadi said this was not true. The truth, he continued, was that the three were involved in purchasing illegal firearms. One of them is Bripka Reynaldi Prakoso from Polda Metro Jaya. He was arrested for buying this modified firearm from Semarang.
“(Reynaldi) bought one via e-commerce,” he said.
He said again, Reynaldi’s motive for buying firearms was also just a hobby.
