Jakarta – Officers from the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of Polda Metro Jaya arrested a grandfather with the initials R (59) from Bekasi. R was arrested because he was detected as a suspected perpetrator of spreading fake news or hoaxes.
R is suspected of being the spreader of the narrative ‘demonstrators were stabbed by officers’ on WhatsApp social media.
This narrative was disseminated by R on Thursday, (10/8) yesterday, at the same time as a labor demonstration. In the narrative that was distributed, R included a hoax video with the narrative ‘a demonstrator on Jalan Daan Mogot, West Jakarta, was stabbed by officers using a bayonet’.
Director of the Special Criminal Investigation Unit for Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol Ade Safri Simanjuntak explained in his statement that R was arrested in Bekasi on Friday, (11/8) in the early morning.
“The person concerned was arrested after he was detected as the perpetrator who distributed a video accompanied by a hoax narration that said ‘demonstrators were stabbed by officers on Jalan Daan Mogot’,” said Kombes Pol Ade Safri to reporters, Friday, (11/8).
The video sent by R, continued Kombes Pol Ade Safri, is completely untrue. Later R finally admitted that he got the video from another WhatsApp group.
“From the results of the initial clarification of the suspect, initial information was obtained that the suspect received the message from another WhatsApp group,” Police Commissioner Ade Safri said.
“However, the suspect forgot to get the message from which group and from whom. The problem is the suspect has more or less 54 groups on his WhatsApp,” he added.
The suspect R is currently being detained at Polda Metro Jaya. Investigators are currently investigating and investigating this case. Bembo
