Jakarta – The modus operandi of the TIP syndicate selling kidney organs to Cambodia is that the suspects recruited potential donors via Facebook. The victims were lured with up to Rp135 million in cash.
Apart from using Facebook, the suspects also recruited victims by word of mouth. Some of the suspects are even former donors.
“The modus operandi is that they recruited from Facebook media. There are two accounts and two community groups, namely ‘Indonesian Kidney Donors’ and ‘Foreign Kidney Donors’,” said Director of General Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol Hengki Haryadi during a press conference at Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, Friday, (20/7) afternoon.
“Besides that, recruitment is also word of mouth. There is something specific here that turns donors into recruiters,” he continued.
In practice, Kombes Pol Hengki explained, this syndicate also falsified company recommendations. Prospective donors whose kidneys will be taken in Cambodia go abroad as if they want to take part in a family gathering.
“At the time of departure abroad it turned out that they faked the recommendations of several companies as if they were going to a family gathering abroad,” said Kombes Pol Hengki.
“When asked by the immigration officer ‘where are you going? (Answered) a family gathering, here is a letter of assignment from the company. There is a company this group faked as if it was going to a family gathering, including the stamps,” he continued.
These potential donors, continued Kombes Pol Hengki, were accompanied by hundreds of millions of rupiah after completing organ transplants in Cambodia.
“Then promise Rp. 135 million for each donor when the kidney transplant is completed in Cambodia. So after the transplant, a few days later it is immediately transferred to a personal account,” he explained.
The transplant process, continued Kombes Pol Hengki, was actually carried out in a Cambodian government hospital. Before a kidney transplant, the donor will be observed for a week.
“When in Cambodia, the donors were observed for about a week while waiting for the potential recipient of the kidney to be received. They met and then carried out a kidney transplant. The recovery period was 7 days and then returned to Indonesia,” he said.
This case was revealed after a joint team from the Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya and Polres Metro Bekasi investigated the existence of a shelter for Indonesian citizens who were going to be sent to Cambodia in the Bekasi Regency area.
The police then secured a number of potential kidney donors who were going to Cambodia. Bembo
