Jakarta – Kapolda Metro Jaya Irjen Pol Karyoto, explained the reason why his party had not arrested former Corruption Eradication Committee Chairman Firli Bahuri. Even though Firli has been named a suspect in alleged extortion of former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL).

According to Kapolda Karyoto, the detention was carried out based on investigators’ beliefs. If investigators subjectively assess that detention is necessary, then Fitri will be detained.

“Later we will see how confident the investigators are. Whether subjectively there are things that need to be detained. It is possible, it could be detained,” said Kapolda Karyoto to journalists in front of the Indonesian KPU Office, Jakarta, Tuesday, (28/11 ).

He said again, that investigators have not yet examined Firli as a suspect. Investigators have not yet gone through this phase to conclude whether or not detention is necessary.

However, Kapolda Karyoto continued, he did not deny the possibility that Firli could be immediately detained after being questioned as a suspect. If the investigator’s subjectivity concludes that detention is necessary, it will be carried out immediately.

“Detention is part of a coercive measure. It depends on the investigator, what opinion they have later, that’s how it is. Later it will be handed over to the investigator, I usually just accept the report,” said Kapolda Karyoto.

As is known, even though Firli has not been detained, Polda Metro Jaya has already banned the retired three-star police general. Polda Metro investigators have also sent a letter banning Firli to the Directorate General of Immigration, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, last Friday, (24/11).

Firli holds suspect status because he is suspected of blackmailing SYL in connection with a corruption case at the Ministry of Agriculture which also ensnared SYL. Polda Metro Jaya named Firli as a suspect last Wednesday, (22/11).

Before naming Firli as a suspect, Polda Metro Jaya investigators had already examined approximately 90 witnesses, including experts. Meanwhile, Firli and SYL have only been examined twice.

Investigators have also searched two of Firli’s houses in Bekasi and on Jalan Kertanegara, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. Bembo
